The badges of office he holds not by right
But by the exercise of power, which is absolute
In his domain and in his will to control.
Beyond these mountains may rise, seas swell,
Awesome in their majesty, naked in their strength,
Needing no crown or sceptre to command respect.
He is unmoved, his throne a rock
From which he commands allegiance.
There are no other powers in the world
In his view, he recognises none,
Seeing, instead, the fact of his status
As confirmation of his right to rule.
